Open Garden Wi-Fi Tether Android application – 100,000 installs reached on May 21st

Our tethering application for Android reached more than 100,000 installs on May 21st, 2011.

We thank you all for your support in that first step towards building Open Garden Mesh Network. We are very grateful for your advices, support and recommandations for new features. Our team is taking into consideration all your comments and we will implement these changes and improvements in the next releases of our application.

This application is a beginning for us and our goal to provide free mobile wireless broadband access to a wider audience will happen when we reach a real density of connected devices using our softwares.

    Good app! But how do I get on the web? It connects and all, shows up on my computer, but when I connect it and go on web browser, says cannot connect.
    Help please?

    great app! I’m connected with my entourage pocket edge thanks to this apparently.

      How did you manage it. I have been at it all day with no luck. Rooted Huawei Ascend with Open Garden running and still my Pocket Edge fails to see it. Any advice?

    I have a droid incredible and just rooted it and downloaded your app and I have found the connection on my iPad 2 and it says I’m connected on my iPad but I open safari and it says I am not connected to the internet. Please help! Same thing with my macbook…

    this app works amazing for my computer… i try to use it to connect to my ps3 though and it will not connect to the playstation network. is there neway that it will if i change things in the settings? or something coming up that will allow it?

      Hi Austin,

      Thank you for your interest in the OpenGarden Tethering app. We are pleased to hear it works very well with your computer!

      At this time a number of our users have reported difficulties with Tethering to their PS3. The PS3 supports only Access Point wifi mode, whereas most handsets only support Ad-Hoc mode.

      Some handsets do support AP mode, in which case you would be able to Tether to your PS3.

      We are working on this and in the future intend to have more universal compatibility with Tethering gaming devices.

    I have a question. I downloaded Open Garden Wi-Fi on my Revelation rooted Thunderbolt in order to connect my tablet via a mobile hot spot. It appears to alway start working fine, but then after a few minutes (about when my screen goes dark on the phone), the tablet loses the connection. My question is this: Is there a setting to prevent this from happening? I really love the app., but it’s not practical to use if it keeps dropping the wifi signal. Please advise. Thanks!

      Hi David,

      Thank you for your inquiry and interest in the OpenGarden Tethering app!

      On a number of devices, when the screen turns off the Tethering activity is also paused. If you set the screen timeout to a longer interval or off entirely, it should not interrupt the Tethering. This can be done by accessing your main phone “Settings” under the “Display” category. In future releases, this will no longer be an issue.

      I have a Xoom, and found a setting in there today that describes that exact thing. If its the tablet you have try this. It literally says, “Disconnect when screen turns off”

      Settings>Wireless>Wifi Settings>Wifi Disconnect Policy

    I have a DROID 2 global and Verizon recently updated their os and now my tethering does not work. Everything just automatically sends me to http://www.duns.vzw.com etc…..I am really hoping u guys are working on a fix for this!

    My husband just got this app for me on my Droid Charge, and it was picked up and worked fine on my laptop, but I can’t get my Moto Xoom to even pick up the signal. Also, if I stop the tether, and want to restart it, I have to reboot the phone to get it to start without errors. (Particularly the Ad-Hoc and Channel in the log fails).

    I had been using open garden for about a month now on my samsung exhibit 2 in it worked fine now all of a sudden for the pass 2 days it says its connected but only goes to google once i type in anything else tmobile hotspot error comes up..

    I’ve downloaded og on my Android mob and also in my laptop..I’m using win XP when I open og in my laptop it shows Bluetooth is required for og to run enable your Bluetooth…but my Bluetooth was enable only don’t know y it’s showing like that plz tell me how to solve this problem
